I have professed my man love for Kobe Bryant many times. I think he is the best player in the NBA and the best that I've ever seen in terms of how one guy improved his game year-by-year. Kobe has a killer work ethic and likes to be a killer on the basketball court. He plays hard aggressive defense and at the same time wants to take your heart out by hitting big shots. He is a beast on the court.
Now, am I a fan of everything he does off the court? No. But, he is still my
sports role model because when I play basketball I try to model my game after his. Look, if I can give you one piece of advice, always make an athlete your role model for his
on the court effort and never
what he does off the court. We as fans have NO idea about how the athletes are off the court. If you are looking at making an athlete your role model then you need to look some where
else because a lot of athletes are
flawed.
Well, on Wednesday night, I had a chance to meet Kobe Bryant through work. I go to most of the Rockets' games since I have to gather sound for 1560 The Game's various shows. So yesterday, as part of my job, I talked to Kobe Bryant after the game. I am man enough to say that I was in awe when I was interviewing him (okay, so it wasnt a 1-on-1 but it was still cool even if I had 8 other guys around me)...
The first time I saw Kobe that night was before the game when I went into the Lakers locker room for pre-game sound and a chance to get an interview with Kobe.
(Although I did not get a 1-on-1 with Kobe, I did get one with Chris Mihm on Texas Basketball...I will post that soon) Kobe was in the training room getting his ankles taped up so he was not speaking to the media. But, as I was walking out I looked into the training room and made eye contact with Mamba. For that moment, Kobe and I were the only ones locking eyes in the world. He knew I was a fan. Sorry, that was very
Broke Back. It was awesome!
After the game I finally did interview Kobe and found out some shocking news, Kobe Bryant is my brother. After I finally asked him a question, he responded by calling me "Bro". I had no idea that I was Kobe's brother! It was AWESOME! He did not call anybody else "BRO" that night! Here is a little clip of the interview with a family song mixed in.
powered by ODEOAll in all, it was a good night. I got to watch Kobe live for the first time and I had a chance to meet him. To preserve this night, I mixed up all the answers he gave to various questions from the post game interview and put it up for you the reader. Here are some highlights...Some reporter asked if he is proud of his new found defensive energy. Kobe responded with, look I've been doing this for a while, look at my seven all-NBA defensive team awards. CLASSIC! He also called himself Kobe Mutombo and said T-mac hurt his elbow on purpose so he can get out of baby duties! Enjoy!
